16 Cuban former athletes invited as guests to the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro
The 16 Cuban former athletes invited as guests to the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro have won among them over 100 medals in previous tournaments of the same kind.

Besides the active athletes, trainers, and federation executives, the Cuban delegation will include 16 ex sports aces, with brilliant performances in continental competitions, Granma daily reported on Friday.

Erick Lopez outstands among the guests, as the winner of 22 medals in Pan American games, 18 of them gold, with which he has occupied the top medal-winner position since these games began in Buenos Aires in 1951.

Lopez, who debuted in the 1991 Havana games, and retired after Santo Domingo 2003, is followed by table tennis player Madelaine Armas, who won 11 medals, six of silver and five of bronze, between Caracas 1983 and Mar del Plata 1995.

Runner Ana Fidelia Quirot, with eight medals (4-3-1) between 1975 and 1991, also shines in a list that includes baseball player Antonio Pacheco, boxers Teofilo Stevenson and Mario Kindelan, weight lifter Willian Vargas and wrestler Filiberto Azcuy.

Among them, they have won 53 titles, a number only exceeded so far by six of the 42 member countries of the Pan American Sports Organization, the United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela.
