China and Cuba Sign Sports Agreements

The sports ties between China and Cuba, reinforced a year ago at the governmental level, were strengthened again this Saturday in Havana when the president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Liu Peng, signed "with his Cuban counterpart, Jose Ramon Fernandez" a memorandum of understanding between the two entities.

The executed document reflects the will to further develop exchange and cooperation between the two countries, and includes the nations intentions to unite their efforts in the struggle against doping, encouraging the participation of athletes in sports competitions held in each country, as well as the exchange of coaches in different disciplines.

After signing the agreement, the Chinese sports leader expressed thanks for Cubas support for the Asian nation holding the Olympic Games next year in Beijing, and praised the performance of the Cuban athletes.

Liu Peng recognized that in proportion to its population, Cuba has one of the worlds best records in Olympic competitions; so one of the visits objectives was to learn more about Cubas sports experiences, in addition to strengthened existing ties.

«We know about Cubas interest of setting up training centers in China prior to the Olympic Games, and we will offer you this opportunity, because we are brothers and friends,» said the visitor, who also spoke about the possibility of Cuban athletes participating in more than 40 competitions in China from this October to May of next year, as trials for the summer event.
