Cuban Olympic Committee (COC) President Jose Ramon Fernandez assured that Cuba will bring a strong delegation to the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.

After Tuesday's third graduation of the International Physical Education and Sports School (EIEFD), Fernandez told Prensa Latina, "We are convinced we have prepared our delegation well, that we have a good team, that we will take real patriots to the Games, defending the colors of the Cuban flag."

Cuba will take part in the Pan American Games with 483 athletes, in 27 of the 33 sports in the competition program and every province contributed at least one athlete, with an average age of 23 years.

Ninety-four percent come from the National School Games, and seven out of 10 athletes are first-timers in this type of competition.

The delegation was officially handed the national flag on Saturday by Cuban First Vice President Raul Castro Ruz.
