The well known Dominican intellectual, Marcio Veloz Maggiolo called for protecting endangered identities at a lecture he gave at the 28th Fire Festival here.
The outstanding archeologist, narrator, historian and National Laureate for Literature and Social Sciences considered that the times required urgent action to preserve the Caribbean heritage against a galloping globalization that tends to push everything into one great market.
Veloz Maggiolo referred to tourism as an important means of domination and considered the Internet a key means of freedom, although at times it is like a dog that chases its own tail.
The Dominican scholar called for a strengthening of national projects to confront imposed patterns from abroad on poorer nations.
Another significant moment of the Festival was the handing over of the works of Juan Bosch to the Caribbean House by the embassy of the Dominican Republic in Cuba.
