Climate change and other environmental challenges of the 21st century are on the table as of Monday at the 6th International Convention on Environment and Development, starting in this capital.

Over 200 experts are expected to attend the meeting, among them Achim Steiner, executive director of the UN Environmental Program, who will give a lecture.

The aim of the event, to be run until Friday at Havana's International Conference Center, is to offer alternatives for sustainable development, said Gisela Alonso, president of the Cuban Environment Agency.

Also on the list is sustainable management of ecosystems, use of tourism in protected areas, watershed and citizenship, results of the Cuban-Venezuelan collaboration in environmental affairs and the Chile-Cuba meeting on marine and coastal biodiversity.

Parallel to the convention is a fair with Cuban and foreign companies on environment.
