15th International Biennial of Graphic Humor
The Unión de Periodistas de Cuba (UPEC) (Association of Journalists of Cuba,) the Circle of Humorists and Comic Stories Creators of the UPEC and the Museum of Humor of San Antonio de los Baños, summon to the Cuba 2007 15th International Biennial of Graphic Humor to be held from March 25th to 29th , sponsored by the Direction of Culture of Havana Province, and the Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP).

In this event whose participation is opened to all graphic humor professionals all over the world, contests will take place in the following categories: General Humor, Political Satire, Humorous Comic Story, Personal Caricature and Humorous Photo.

Printed works digitally processed in any category of those aforementioned are included. Up to 3 works for each category can be sent. Original works will be made in any technique with a format of 40 x 50 cm. (maximum).

Each work must include the authors data: name and last names (also artistic name); country; participating category , private address and electronic mail.

Jury

A selection of the presented works, carried out by a specialized admission jury, will be exhibited in the 15th International Salon of Graphic Humor in San Antonio de los Baños. An international jury, integrated by graphic humor noted figures the grant the prizes in the different categories:

- Jorge Oliver Medina. Cuba 1947. Comic story creator, illustrator, journalist and professor of Social Communication. He has specialized in the production of materials for children and youth. He has published story books and children plays. He is a cartoon creator. Now he is the President of the Chair of Graphic humorists in the José Martí International Institute of Journalism.

- Adigio Benítez. Cuba 1924. Painter and Illustrator. Graduated in San Alejandro Arts Academy in 1949. 2002 National Award on Visual Arts. He has carried out numerous personal exhibitions and he has participated in more than 250 collective in different countries. He is one of the artists who has known how to conjugate more emphatically, the lust for beauty harassing each true creator and the reflection of topics and emergent circumstances within the social reality on which he lives.

- Massoud Shojait Tabatabai (Iran). Teheran 1964. Graduated on painting in the Arts College of the University of Teheran. Chief Editor of Kayhan Caricature magazine and President of the House of the Humor of Teheran. Awarded in numerous international caricature events. He was Jury on the 2001 International Biennial of Graphic Humor.

- Omar Figueroa Turcios (Turcios). Colombia 1968. Excellent caricaturist winner of numerous awards in international events, being among them the International Biennial of Humorism of San Antonio de los Baños.

- Guillermo Bastías (Guillo). Chile. Acknowledged Chilean caricaturist who during Pinochet's dictatorship worked in the well-known magazine APSI. He has published several humor books and has won different awards in international events. He was Jury on the 2004 International Biennial of Graphic Humor in San Antonio de los Baños.

- Armengol Tosá (Ermengol). Argentina. He has been publising since 1979. At present he is the Director of the Humoralía Cultural Association in Lérida, Spain. Editor of the collection of History of the Cartoon in the Ibero American countries.

Awards

Eduardo Abela Award, consisting in diploma and $1 000 CUC

First, second and third places, prizes in each category, consisting in diplomas.

Other Cuban cultural institutions will confer awards.

Humorists' meetings

From March 25th to 29th theoretical workshops and on artistic creation will be held in San Antonio de los Baños and in Havana City, so that their participants can exchange experiences, to make public their work (do not leave your briefcase at home) and to meditate on the role of humor in the 21st Century. The proposal is a meeting to foster friendship, solidarity and peace among those who think and make to laugh and to think. We shall also attend the opening of graphic humor exhibitions.

Program

Sunday 25th: Painting of the mural. "The graphic humorists for a world of peace."

Monday 26th: Opening of the Salon of the 15th Biennial and of the Salon of Veterans.

Tuesday 27th : Opening of the Exhibition Women Caricaturists. Lecture: The creative woman's experiences in the cartoon and in the comic. Colloquy: "Graphic humor evolution in Cuba."

Wednesday 28th: Workshop: "Notwithstanding, it Moves", with creators of the Animation Studios of the ICAIC (Cuban Film Institute). Personal exhibition by Arístides Hernández (Ares) collective Exhibition: "Ares invites". Personal Exhibition by Adam Iglesias:

" Impersonal cartoon"

Thursday 29th : Collective exhibition by the jury. Workshop: on Political Humor: "To Laugh in Peace". All the guests to this workshop will make works on the topic which will be in Internet as a final statement in Accusation and rejection to war. Awarding Ceremony and Closing.
