Hurricane Paloma Weakens and Leaves Cuba as Tropical Depression
As the storm approached the southern coast of Cuba, the hurricane-force winds reached a Category Four (of a maximum of five on the Saffir Simpson Scale) and the island's authorities took no chances -- evacuating hundreds of thousands of people in low-lying areas in the provinces of Camagüey, Las Tunas, Holguin and Granma.
