A shipment filled with humanitarian aid from Spain made its way to the Diocese of Cienfuegos on Monday, intended for Caritas Diocesana to support families in need within the province.

The donations were sent by three Spanish entities: the Asociación Cooperación Misionera based in Terrassa (Barcelona), Caritas Toledo from the Diocese of Toledo, and a group of collaborators from Pamplona associated with Opus Dei.

The Cienfuegos Catholic Youth page, which shared the news on Facebook along with photos, emphasized that these organizations "have once again shown their closeness and solidarity with our Church and with so many families in need."

The unloading process lasted over four hours, involving volunteers from various parishes in Cienfuegos.

The images revealed boxes marked with logos from Caritas, Fundació "la Caixa," Eurocaja Rural, and the Diocese of Toledo, along with items like cookies, canned goods, beverages, and metal containers.

The diocese's publication highlighted that "these aids provide concrete relief for many of the needs our people face today and are also a sign of hope and Christian fraternity."

This shipment arrives amidst a severe economic, energy, and supply crisis in Cuba, where the Catholic Church and its network of Caritas Diocesanas have become major channels for distributing international aid, operating without state mediation and focusing on the most vulnerable groups: single mothers, the elderly, the sick, and people with disabilities.

The Diocese of Cienfuegos, located in the central region of the country, had not been part of the major aid operations concentrated in the east following the impact of Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, which affected over 2.2 million people.

In April 2026, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Caritas Cuba distributed five containers of aid valued at $3 million to eastern dioceses, while solidarity shipments from Spain to various Cuban provinces have increased.

In March 2026, the organization SODePAZ sent a container from Torrelavega with medical equipment and computers destined for a hospital in Matanzas and the Marianao municipality in Havana.

The Cienfuegos diocese concluded its message with a reflection capturing the spirit of these charitable acts: "We thank God for every act of charity and for all the people and institutions that, from various places, continue to extend their helping hand towards our diocese."
