In a collaborative effort, the United States Border Patrol (USBP) and the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office dismantled a migrant smuggling operation in Mission, Texas, which included individuals from Cuba.

On December 19, authorities uncovered a residence hiding 24 undocumented immigrants waiting for transportation, according to a social media post by USBP Chief Michael W. Banks.

Banks noted that these migrants hailed from eight different nations: Cuba, China, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Mexico. However, he did not specify the number of individuals from each country.

"These individuals originated from various nations, underscoring again that cartels are transnational criminal organizations," Banks remarked.

The smuggler apprehended is facing legal proceedings for human trafficking, and the migrants are set to undergo deportation processes.

This operation is part of a broader crackdown led by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through its federal agencies, such as ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and CBP (Customs and Border Protection), aimed at identifying, capturing, and expelling individuals with irregular immigration status who have committed crimes.

Recently, the DHS leadership reiterated that agencies are "intensifying law enforcement efforts," following reports suggesting a possible shift in immigration policy, moving away from massive raids toward a more targeted approach.

A substantial majority of Americans support the deportation of illegal immigrants who have committed crimes, as revealed by the latest Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll.

According to the poll, 80% of respondents expressed support for deporting undocumented immigrants who have broken the law, while only 20% opposed it. Support was highest among Republican voters (91%) but also received significant backing from independents (79%) and Democrats (69%), illustrating broad bipartisan agreement on the immigration issue.

The survey further indicated that 70% of participants believe in strengthening border security and implementing policies to deter illegal crossings, with 56% in favor of deploying the U.S. military to prevent illegal immigration.
