Julio Casas, Cuban defense minister and longtime revolutionary, dies of heart failure

Julio Casas Regueiro, who oversaw the Cuban military’s lucrative economic enterprises for years before replacing Raul Castro as defense minister, died Saturday of heart failure, state television reported. He was 75. Casas, who was also a vice president of the Council of State, Cuba’s supreme governing body, was the most important figure from the revolution to die since Juan Almeida Bosque in 2009. Cuban defense minister dies of heart attack, state media reports

<p style="text-align: justify;">Havana (CNN) -- Cuba's defense minister died suddenly Saturday from a heart attack, the Caribbean nation's state news service reported. Julio Casas Regueiro, 75, became head of Cuba's armed forces in February 2008. A longtime revolutionary, he fought alongside Fidel and Raul Castro in the guerrilla war that brought the two brothers to power in January 1959. Read More

Cuba withdraws ambassador from Libya

<p style="text-align: justify;">HAVANA (AP) — Cuba has announced the withdrawal of its ambassador and diplomatic mission in Libya and reiterated that it does not recognize the rebels' transitional government. It also has denounced the NATO military intervention that helped drive Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi into hiding, saying the bombing killed "thousands" of civilians.
