Cuban broadcaster Laritza Camacho took to Facebook to express her disapproval of the recent behavior exhibited by Cuban regime officials following an incident at the UN headquarters in New York. While she did not name anyone specifically, her comments were clearly aimed at the conduct of the diplomats involved in the event.

Camacho opened her post with a childhood memory: "I remember as a child, when a boy resolved a conflict without shouting, without offending, with smiles and arguments, the adults would say that the 'such a kid' was diplomatic." From this nostalgic image, she articulated a scathing critique of those representing Cuba on the international stage.

"It's curious how the mind recalls those memories when white turns black and black becomes a smudge on paper that scratches out beautiful words, transforming them into cheap vulgarity at an expensive and ineffective neighborhood market," the presenter wrote.

Her post concluded with a blend of anger and disappointment as a Cuban: "The worst part is that the word beneath the smudge is not diplomacy, it's Cuba. I refuse to accept that vulgarity represents me as part of this nation."

UN Incident Sparks Outrage

The episode prompting her words took place when members of the Cuban delegation at the UN called panelists of the "Cuba Libre: The Oppression Havana Hides" forum "terrorists" and urged them to "get out of the UN." The event, organized by the U.S. Permanent Mission, was streamed live on UN Web TV for nearly two hours.

Among the attendees were opposition leader and former political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer, founder of UNPACU, and artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, who was released and exiled to Miami this past July after five years of imprisonment.

Ferrer reported the incident on Facebook, stating: "We have just been subjected to a repudiation act at the UN by Cuban communists."

Colombian correspondent Juan Esteban Silva from Caracol Radio shared a 29-second video the next day, capturing the confrontation from a frontal angle, including a man in a suit raising his middle finger. Silva labeled the episode as "unacceptable!" and added, "I had the opportunity to be there and witness what happened. Intimidation will not silence the truth."

Cuban Delegation's Further Actions

The inappropriate behavior of the Cuban delegation did not end there. Cuba's permanent representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, posted a satirical video on X, depicting Ferrer and U.S. ambassador Mike Waltz as if they were in a romantic relationship, with the caption "Love blooms between Mike Waltz and José Daniel Ferrer." This post sparked another wave of criticism on social media.

Waltz had previously responded to Soberón's attempts to block the forum with a straightforward remark: "If it bothers you that we give Cubans a platform to discuss these issues, maybe stop doing those things? Then we'll stop talking about them."

This incident at the UN comes just days before the General Assembly vote on the Cuban resolution demanding the end of the U.S. embargo, scheduled for October 28. International support for this resolution has been steadily declining: from 187 votes in 2024 to 165 in October 2025, and only 136 in the special session held in July of this year.
