Yoyi (José Mesa) and Preña Palma (Maikel Martín), the beloved Cuban influencers and comedians based in Miami, joyfully announced they have bought their first home in the United States through a heartfelt Instagram video.
Yoyi shared that the buying process was unexpectedly swift: "The process was amazing. In less than 30 days, we were able to purchase our little house. It went from being a dream to becoming reality."
The Instagram post highlighted the emotional significance of this milestone: "We look back and remember that tiny efficiency where we lived cramped, with little space but with so much determination to move forward. The journey here hasn't been easy, which makes this moment all the more meaningful to us."
From Efficiency to Home Ownership
An efficiency in Miami is a very small apartment—between 18 and 46 square meters—where the living room, bedroom, and kitchen are all in one space, with a separate bathroom. It's the most affordable housing option for newcomers to South Florida, with rents ranging from $1,000 to $1,200 monthly.
In February 2025, Yoyi showcased their first Miami efficiency as a testament to their humble beginnings as Cuban immigrants.
In that post, Yoyi wrote: "Today, I want to share a bit of our beginnings in this country: our first efficiency. A small space, but full of dreams and challenges that marked the start of our new life."
Their journey to finding their own home became public in September 2026, when the couple humorously documented their house-hunting adventures in Miami. Just weeks later, they confirmed their dream had come true.
In the announcement of their home purchase, Yoyi reflected on the importance of remembering their roots.
"This house carries a piece of everything we lived through to get here. We don't want to forget our beginnings because they are part of our story and make us appreciate every corner with more gratitude," he wrote.
Known for their Cuban cultural comedy sketches and content about the immigrant experience, the couple concluded their announcement with a hopeful promise: "Now begins a new chapter: turning this house into our home. Filling it with love, laughter, memories, and life together. We've opened a door we dreamed of for so long, and behind it lies a life to build."
