Crissian Daniela Hernández Embarks on a Journey to Represent Cuba at Miss Teen Interglobal in Indonesia

Tuesday, July 7, 2026 by Grace Ramos

For nearly three years, Marian Enrich, the mother of Crissian Daniela Hernández, resisted supporting her daughter's aspiration to compete in beauty pageants. In an interview with Tania Costa for CiberCuba, she admitted that decision weighs heavily on her now. "It pains me deeply knowing I initially refused to support her," she confessed.

Now, at 16, Crissian Daniela Hernández is gearing up to represent Cuba at the Miss Teen Interglobal 2026 competition, set to take place in Bali, Indonesia, this August.

Challenges and Cultural Barriers

Marian Enrich's hesitation stemmed from two reasons. Firstly, a cultural perspective. As a Cuban immigrant, her focus was on her daughter obtaining an education and a professional degree. "It's the mindset we, Cubans, carry: study, study, and bring us a diploma," she acknowledged. Secondly, the financial aspect: participating in beauty pageants demands an investment that a middle-class family living on a single income often finds challenging to meet.

"You know, as an immigrant, when you come to this country, you focus more on education and self-improvement, trying to establish a profession that can support you now and in the future. That was my prejudice," Marian explained.

Breaking Through Family Doubts

Adding to her mother's reservations was the fact that, as Marian pointed out, beauty contests "aren't very common" in Cuba, reinforcing her skepticism. Even Daniela's stepfather would often say, "Daniela, you are beautiful, but this isn't for you. Focus on your studies."

However, Daniela's determination eventually won over her family after three years of persistence. Her breakthrough came when she competed in Teen Cuba and emerged as the first runner-up, a result that began to shift her mother's perspective. "I kept insisting until she gave me the chance. Then I participated in Teen Cuba and became the first runner-up," Daniela recounted.

An International Leap Forward

Marian Enrich admits that witnessing her daughter in action changed her mind, despite initially doubting Daniela's potential in this field. "I didn't believe she could succeed because I've never been part of that world, and she was so convinced. I kept wondering, how long would she keep trying? There was no stopping her," Marian recalled.

The final push came from coach Brian Guerrero, who trained Daniela Hernández throughout her journey and encouraged her to take the international leap. "Until my coach said, 'Wait, I think she's ready, let's go for it.' He has trained me through all of this," Daniela shared.

Achievements and Ambitions

Before heading to Indonesia, the young Cuban already boasts a remarkable resume. She graced the cover of the French magazine Malvie, and on July 4, 2026, she was featured on the cover of Magazine Teens at Mayu restaurant in Miami, marking the first time a Cuban achieved such recognition. Her national costume for the pageant was crafted by Panamanian designer Roger Pérez.

This isn't the first time Cuba has made waves in international youth pageants. Cuban contestants have won Miss Teen Global in two consecutive years, with Naisha Nardo and Isabella Toledo. Daniela heads to Bali with the same determination: "I'm thrilled to walk through those doors in Indonesia. A Cuban is coming to win that crown."
