Cuban TikToker Warns About the Challenges of Moving to Guyana: "Don't Be Fooled"

A Cuban individual known on TikTok as Cuti CTT has released a cautionary video aimed at fellow Cubans considering a move to Guyana. Having lived there for just two weeks, he has already encountered a reality that starkly contrasts with his initial expectations.

In the video, which was shared on June 20, the young Cuban highlights three major issues he has faced: a severe lack of job opportunities, wages that fall below the legal threshold, and street violence that directly impacts the migrant community.

Employment Challenges and Exploitation

"The first thing I want to tell you so you don't come here deceived: there's a huge scarcity of jobs. It's really tough to find work nearly every day," he warns in his recording.

Regarding wages, he criticizes how the influx of Cubans, Venezuelans, and other Spanish-speaking migrants has created conditions ripe for labor exploitation. "Seeing so much migration, they take advantage of the situation and pay less," he explains.

As an extreme example, he mentions a fellow Cuban who worked in construction from seven in the morning until seven at night for a mere 6,000 Guyanese dollars a day, which equates to less than one dollar and is significantly below Guyana's minimum daily wage of approximately 111,502 Guyanese dollars (around 18 dollars) in 2026.

Concerns About Safety

The security situation he describes is equally alarming. He recounts an incident where a Cuban friend, who welcomed him to the country, intervened during a robbery involving a couple of compatriots. "They were mugging another Cuban and his wife, and when he stepped in, they pulled knives, there were stabbings. Thankfully, he wasn't harmed, but they took his passport and money," he shares.

He advises against visiting areas near public hospitals where thefts are common and urges potential migrants to thoroughly consider their decision before making the move.

The Cost of Living

The only positive aspect he mentions is the low cost of food: "Groceries are super cheap. With one day of work, you can buy a week's worth of food, plenty to eat."

His main recommendation is clear: "If you don't have someone here who already has a job waiting for you or something sorted out, it's going to be very difficult."

The content creator admits that back in Cuba, he was, in his own words, "a slacker who did nothing," and he arrived in Guyana with expectations that reality did not fulfill: "Money isn't easy to come by."
