The Cuban Ministry of Transport is set to ease the requirements for obtaining a Transport Operations License (LOT) for mopeds, motorcycles, and electric tricycles.

This temporary and exceptional measure, effective until December 2026, comes in response to the worsening transport crisis in Cuba due to fuel shortages.

According to the state-run outlet Cubadebate, the initiative addresses requests from local authorities and aims to integrate vehicles currently operating without registration into the transport system. This unregistered status has previously complicated their hire and organization according to each region's priorities.

Owners looking to regularize their vehicle registrations must prove the vehicle's legality and hold a category A Driver's License.

The licenses issued will be valid at the municipal level, except in Havana, where they will apply provincially, as detailed in the report.

For the registration process, the chassis number will serve as a temporary reference.

Additionally, once the permit is issued, drivers are required to carry the license during their routes to facilitate road checks.

The report also mentions that regulatory inspection events will be organized in provincial and municipal capitals, helping these vehicles meet the required technical standards.

From there, local authorities, in collaboration with license holders, will negotiate transportation service prices, which will vary depending on the type of service provided.

This initiative was recently approved in Holguín for electric tricycles and mopeds, aiming to aid in the transportation of goods and passengers amid the exceptional situation affecting both the province and the country.
