A homeless individual was taken into custody on Tuesday following a violent stabbing that left another person with severe cuts on the face and arm, as reported by the Hialeah Police Department. The alleged attacker, identified as Santos Gustavo Moreno Córdova, 58, is facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking another man with a knife during a heated verbal altercation.

Threats and Violent Encounter

The incident unfolded shortly before 6:00 pm on Tuesday when Moreno Córdova and the victim became embroiled in a verbal argument, the cause of which has not yet been disclosed by authorities. According to the arrest report accessed by Local 10, during the confrontation, Moreno Córdova allegedly threatened his counterpart, stating, "I'm going to kill you." He then reportedly brandished a knife and stabbed the victim in the left arm and subsequently in the face, inflicting deep wounds to the chin, neck, and arm. Following the stabbing, Moreno Córdova chased the victim down the street before fleeing the scene.

Apprehension and Medical Response

After the incident was reported, officers from the Hialeah Police Department launched a search for the suspect. He was found shortly thereafter in the parking lot of a Chase Bank branch located at 18255 NW 57th Avenue, where he was arrested without incident. Meanwhile, the injured party received assistance from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel and was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where they remain in stable condition, according to officials. The victim later identified the attacker in a photo lineup.

Denial and Lack of Cooperation

According to the police report, during questioning, Santos Moreno Córdova denied injuring the victim and provided what officers described as a "self-serving statement," showing no remorse or offering a coherent account of the events. As of Wednesday afternoon, he remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, with no bond set at the time, according to jail records.

Concerns Over Street Violence

This latest incident reignites concerns about street violence in Hialeah, a densely populated city facing numerous social challenges, including a rising homeless population and conflicts linked to mental health and substance abuse issues. The police have yet to disclose whether Moreno Córdova has a criminal record or psychiatric history, though the investigation remains ongoing. The Hialeah Police Department reiterated its commitment to public safety, emphasizing that any threat involving a weapon is considered a serious crime, even if it doesn't result in the victim's death. Moreno Cordova is expected to appear before a judge in the coming days for formal charge setting and bond hearing.
