US-born Cuban dancer, choreographer and professor Lorna Burdsall was granted the 2008 Cuban National Dance Prize.
In 1959, along with Professor Ramiro Guerra, she founded the National Ensemble of Modern Dance, an institution that became a landmark in the history of Modern Dance in Cuba.
She also contributed to the movement of amateur dance artists and designed syllabuses for the National School of Arts.
She has worked as a choreographer and professor with dance companies in Mexico and Ecuador and many of her dance works have been performed by companies from several countries.
Since 1987, she is a Permanent Professor at the Cuban Higher Institute of Arts.
