Onstage cuban version of Cabaret
The classic-status musical Cabaret will be onstage early in November 2007 by Mefisto Teatro Group under the direction of Tony Díaz.

The piece based on the English dramatist Christopher Isherwoods book Adiós a Berlín 1939 (Goodbye Berlin) and adapted to theatre by John van Druten is still acclaimed by moviegoers thanks to the 1972 Oscar multiawarded film that Liza Minelli and Joel Grey staged so successfully.

In a recent interview that Tony Díaz granted to www.cniae.cult.cu he explained the choreography authored by Cubas National Dance Prize 2007-winning choreographer
Iván Tenorio; " has to do nothing with the over rated film version directed by Bob Fosse nor with the videos, photos, books, publications and testimonies on Broadway releases either ".

"We dont intend to imitate John van Drutens major musical concept, but we want to introduce our own artistic ideas for this new production".

Mefisto Teatros version features a professional cast directed by Tony Díaz, who takes his chances along with the entire team of trainers and rehearsers as Iván Tenorio himself and theatre maîtres Pura Ortiz and Gladys Puig.

The casting is composed of Sarahí Viñas, Grettel Álvarez and Gretel Cazón playing as Sally Bowles, while David Guerra and Rayssel Cruz play the presenter and Alejandro Milián performs as Christopher Isherwood.

Cabaret tells the story of a 1930s Berlin showgirl Sally Bowles, who falls in love with Brian, a handsome bisexual young man. Both are seduced by a wealthy German. After a while Sally is pregnant but does not want to have her child and Brian feeling disappointed returns to England.

Cabaret rehearsing is now in process and will be on at currently under repair Sala Alternativa del Centro Cultural B. Brecht, in Vedado neighbourhood, Havana.

Mefisto Teatro is one of the most successful and daring troupes ever seen the national onstage in the last few years. Escándalo en la Trapa earned them Grand Prix at the 11th National Theatre Festival of Camagüey 2006 and in that same month they played
Los siete contra Tebas, an awesome threater portrayal.

It's great to see Mefisto Theaters musical production staged with such depth and drama.

"Im currently thinking of other similar projects based on my personal musicals notion. Not always it has to be a comedy with music and dance" Tony emphasized and announced theyll soon present the opera rock Huevos by playwright Ulises Rodríguez Febles.
