Lázaro Bruzón

After 33 moves of a Ruy Lopez opening, Cuban Grand Masters (GM) Lazaro Bruzon and Leinier Dominguez tied in the second game of the final leg for the crown of the National Chess Championship.

Now Bruzon (2614) has an advantage over Dominguez (2677) of 1.5-0.5.

On Sunday the players took a day off and the match resumes on Monday. As Bruzon will play with whites, this will be an opportunity for him to recover the title..

This is the third time that that the National Chess Championship is played through the Wimbledon system. On the three occassions Bruzon and Dominguez have reached the final leg, with a victory for each one in 2005 and 2006.

The championship, which is taking place at the Eco hall in central Villa Clara province, concludes on Janury 31.
