Amid increasing repression against independent activists and journalists in Cuba, two members of the Cuban project 'Fuera de la Caja' reported being summoned by the police. They are required to appear this Friday at the Aguilera Street station in the 10 de Octubre municipality of Havana.
In a video message, Mauro Reigosa Pérez highlighted a recent summons received by activist Anthony Martínez, along with the detentions of independent journalists Yoani Sánchez and Camila Acosta, as well as CubaNet contributor Adelth Bonne Gamboa. This is seen as part of a broader crackdown targeting independent content creators in the nation.
"We are experiencing a wave of repression against all Cubans involved in content creation or political activism," stated the group's spokesperson in the video, which garnered over 104,000 views within hours. "Everyone who speaks the political truth about this country is being harassed," he emphasized.
Karel Daniel Hernández Bosques, another young man summoned, added, "Wish us luck and let's hope these abuses against us activists end soon."
This complaint comes at the end of an especially intense week for independent activism on the Island. Camila Acosta, affiliated with the independent outlet CubaNet, was arrested on Tuesday while heading to a veterinary appointment and was held in a cell for hours. Her phone was destroyed during the ordeal.
Adelth Bonne Gamboa faced detention the day before in Santos Suárez, where he underwent a 45-minute interrogation and was fined 3,000 pesos under Decree-Law 370. Authorities confiscated his computer, phone, camera, tripods, headphones, and microphone.
On Wednesday, Yoani Sánchez was detained by State Security while leaving her home in Nuevo Vedado, held for nearly nine hours. She is accused by authorities of allegedly committing a crime against constitutional order.
Established in January 2026 in Cerro, Havana, 'Fuera de la Caja' is a collective of young adults in their twenties, including Karel Daniel Hernández Bosques, Amanda Beatriz Andrés Navarro, Abel Alejandro Andrés Navarro, and Mauro Reigosa Pérez. They produce videos, theater, and digital content with liberal or libertarian views, often recognized by their red caps with the slogan "Make Cuba Great Again."
This is not the first instance of pressure against the group. On July 2, Amanda and Abel Andrés Navarro were detained for over eight hours at the same Aguilera station.
In October, the regime sentenced member Anna Sofía Benítez Silvente and her mother Caridad Silvente to two years of restricted freedom for posting images of an Interior Ministry agent.
Activist Anthony Martínez, mentioned in the video, has been summoned by authorities at least three times before November, the most recent being on October 5.
The Cuban Observatory for Human Rights documented over 3,000 repressive actions in Cuba from January to September this year.
