The House Majority Leader, Steve Scalise, has urged Republican committee chairs to devise a plan to shield Donald Trump, his family, and his allies from upcoming Democratic investigations following their electoral victory.

In a letter dated November 5, which was shared by Fox News journalist Bill Melugin and reported by Politico, Scalise acknowledges the Republican defeat and warns of an anticipated political offensive against the Trump administration.

"House Democrats have indicated their intent to impeach President Trump, but they won't stop there," wrote the Louisiana congressman.

Scalise accused the opposition of planning to exploit their oversight powers to harass the president, his family, and his cabinet members, as well as targeting his political supporters.

"You all will serve as a crucial line of defense in this battle," he cautioned.

The letter contains detailed instructions for utilizing the remaining days the Republicans have at the helm of the committees. This includes creating an inventory of potential Democratic investigations, identifying officials, government programs, and external allies who might be scrutinized, and examining how recent Supreme Court decisions could impact congressional oversight.

Scalise also called for identifying conservative businesses and organizations that might become targets of the new majority, according to his assessment.

Democrats Announce Probes Against Trump

The warning follows the Democratic Party regaining control of the House of Representatives in the November 3 midterm elections. The opposition also secured a projected majority in the Senate, a development that will shift the political balance in Washington when the new Congress takes office in January 2027.

Scalise's concerns align with the warnings from Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia, who vowed to investigate the Trump family and potential abuses by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"Get a lawyer," Garcia advised following the election projections.

Among the Democrats' announced priorities are potential conflicts of interest related to the presidential family's business dealings, the actions of the Department of Homeland Security, and the handling of records associated with Jeffrey Epstein.

Investigations into ICE could also be significant for the Cuban community in the United States, considering the detentions and deportations of immigrants during the Trump administration.

Is a Third Impeachment of Trump Possible?

Despite Republican warnings, Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that no member of his caucus has suggested initiating a third impeachment against Trump.

"Not a single member of the Democratic group in the House of Representatives has mentioned impeachment to me," Jeffries stated, emphasizing that his priority is to lower living costs and hold the government accountable.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of such proceedings being considered later, depending on the outcomes of the investigations.

Trump, who faced two impeachments during his first term and was acquitted by the Senate both times, has expressed no fear of a third trial.

The Scalise letter comes as the Republican leader seeks to become the minority leader in the House starting in January, competing against Congressman Jim Jordan, while the current Speaker, Mike Johnson, announced he would not seek the role.

Republicans will maintain control of the committees until the new legislative session begins, at which point Democrats can assume chairmanships and use their subpoena and oversight powers to scrutinize the Trump administration's actions.
