Daughter of Orlando Manrufo Urges Community to Attend Her Father's Farewell

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 by Hannah Aguilar

From Lima, Olivia Sofía Manrufo Hernández—known to many as "Indirita" from the Cuban show Vivir del Cuento—shared a heartfelt video on social media this Wednesday. Through tears, she asked those who knew her father to visit the funeral home at Zanja and Belascoaín in Havana to support her family in saying goodbye to the comedian Orlando Manrufo, who passed away that same day.

The appeal came just hours after the comedian's death was confirmed. Manrufo, beloved across Cuba for his character "Mariconchi," had been a staple of Cuban comedic theater for over thirty years. The Center for the Promotion of Humor (CPH) confirmed his passing and extended condolences to his family and friends.

With visible emotion, Olivia Manrufo addressed those who had shared moments with her father: "For those in Cuba who knew my dad, whether by sight, through his work, or as friends—close or distant—please go to Zanja and Belascoaín to support him, my mom, and my sister."

Residing in Peru since April 2012, Olivia acknowledged the challenges facing the Cuban population but appealed to the affection the public held for her father: "It's the only thing I can think of that he would like: for people to come. I know the situation is tough. If you can go, I know it would mean a lot to him."

The funeral home she mentioned is popularly known as Funeraria Bernardo García, located at Zanja No. 405 in Centro Habana.

Olivia Manrufo is a graduate of the National Art School of Cuba and portrayed "Indirita" in Vivir del Cuento from 2009 to 2012, with occasional appearances until 2015. From Lima, she has continued her acting career and pursued writing and directing projects.

Luis Silva, the popular "Pánfilo" from Vivir del Cuento, also bid farewell to Manrufo on social media, reflecting on their connection: "I just learned of the passing of the great and charming comedian, Orlando Manrufo (Mariconchi). Sad news. My condolences to his family. To Olivia, his eldest daughter (Indirita from Vivir del cuento), with whom I worked for several years. The Teatro América was home for years to La Esquina de Mariconchi."

For over 25 years, Manrufo led the comedic gathering "La Esquina de Mariconchi," initially held at Teatro América and later at Cine Yara in Vedado. His character—a sharp-tongued, hypercritical woman who satirized everyday life in Havana—was born in the late 1980s during a theatrical improvisation and gained acclaim in the mid-90s with the Aquelarre National Humor Festival award.
