With over 50 years of heritage in South Florida, Vicky Bakery, the iconic Cuban bakery chain, is gearing up for its new location in Pompano Beach, anticipated to open by the end of November. Situated at 1154 N. Federal Highway, the site is already marked as "Baking Soon" on both its official website and Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation records.
The driving force behind this new venture is franchisee Yamilé Hernández, who has been operating the Boca Raton store since 2023—the first in Palm Beach County—and is now expanding her reach with this second location under the Vicky Bakery brand.
Having grown up in Miami-Dade, Hernandez was a frequent visitor to Vicky Bakery. Her move to the northern part of the county left her feeling the absence of the bakery’s presence. "It was something I missed up here. I used to drive to get it," she shared in a phone interview with Business Debut.
The Pompano Beach site will spread across 1,630 square feet, offering indoor seating and take-out services. Patrons can expect the bakery's signature offerings like pastelitos, ham croquettes—cited by Hernandez as the top-seller—empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, all-day breakfasts, bowls, and catering options.
Cuban coffee will also be a cornerstone of the menu. "We're known for our Cuban coffee, iced coffee," the franchisee highlighted.
The legacy of Vicky Bakery began in 1972 when Cuban exiles Antonio and Gelasia Cao, who previously worked at the renowned Cuban bakery La Vencedora, launched their own shop in Hialeah after emigrating to the United States. The name "Vicky" was inherited from the establishment they originally acquired, which was linked to the previous owner's daughter.
Remaining under family control, the chain formally ventured into franchising in July 2021. The expansion has been robust: by August 2025, Vicky Bakery celebrated the opening of its 30th store in Key Largo, marking its first presence in the Florida Keys, and currently operates around 25 active locations across the state.
In Broward County, Vicky Bakery already has outlets in Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, and Hollywood. The new Pompano Beach location will extend its footprint further north, reinforcing the brand’s expansion strategy beyond its Miami-Dade origins.
Launching a Vicky Bakery franchise is a significant investment, requiring between $626,700 and $1,198,700 in total investment, an initial fee of $35,000, a minimum net worth of $750,000, and at least $500,000 in liquid assets. There is a 6% royalty on monthly gross sales, plus a 2% contribution to marketing, with 10-year contracts.
While Vicky Bakery has not announced the exact opening date for the Pompano Beach location, Hernandez is optimistic about welcoming customers before November concludes.
