This Halloween Saturday, Cuban artists and influencers living abroad showcased their impressive creativity on Instagram through intricate costumes, professional photoshoots, and humorous scripts that captivated audiences.
Heydy González, together with her partner Eddy Borges and their daughter Galilea, starred in a vampire-themed shoot with outstanding production quality. They donned black capes lined with red, special effects makeup featuring wounds and fangs, and held black rose bouquets under dramatic nighttime lighting. The family posed outdoors against a backdrop of barren trees, creating images reminiscent of a horror film. "Ours is forever... and we take our roles very seriously," González remarked, adding, "In this family, even the scares are shared."
Lianet Marti, known as "La Mija," embraced the characters from Shrek, sharing a ten-second reel with her family set to Smash Mouth's "All Star"—the iconic song from the animated movie—and teasing her followers with the question, "Guess who’s the donkey?" leaving them speculating about her portrayal of the beloved character.
Juliette Valle transformed into a sassy witch for a nearly two-minute reel set in Miami. Playing the wicked witch from Snow White, her character visits a cosmetic clinic and emerges completely revamped: "My God, these lips look beautiful. No wrinkles, neck tightened, 100 years younger," she exclaims before declaring herself ready for "the night of hunting."
Rachel Arderi whisked her family into a fairy tale world with an Aladdin-themed production. She dressed as Princess Jasmine in a turquoise outfit and gold headband; her partner Bebeshito portrayed Aladdin with a red turban and purple vest; one of their children became the Genie, complete with a blue-painted face and a magic lamp; and little Mia was Abu, the monkey, with her signature red hat. This was all set against a backdrop of colorful domes reminiscent of Agrabah's palace. "A Whole New World," the family titled their post.
Samantha Hernández chose a zombie and horror movie aesthetic for her photoshoot. With special effects makeup mimicking wounds, dark veins, and artificial blood on tattered clothes, the production achieved strikingly impactful images.
This tradition of elaborate costumes among the Cuban exile community has solidified over the years, with figures like Leoni Torres dressing as Elvis Presley in 2023 and Camila Cabello as a Tropicana dancer in 2024, proving that Cuban talent and creativity know no bounds, even on the darkest night of the year.
