The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained Cuban national Pedro Álvarez Rodríguez on October 20 in Orlando, Florida. Álvarez Rodríguez has a criminal history that includes convictions for theft and identity theft, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The DHS released a statement this Friday highlighting the apprehension of five foreign nationals in Florida, with Álvarez Rodríguez described as an undocumented immigrant. According to the DHS, his record also includes arrests for physical assault on a law enforcement officer, violent resistance, and speeding.

The arrests are distinct from his convictions for theft and identity theft. The other arrests highlighted by the DHS occurred between October 8 and October 20 in Orlando, Ocala, and Cocoa. Alongside Álvarez Rodríguez, the statement mentioned two Haitian nationals and two Vietnamese nationals.

Among them, Djina Christelle Maurice from Haiti was apprehended on October 14 in Ocala, with a conviction for vehicular manslaughter, and Jean Joel Joseph, also Haitian, was detained on October 19 in Orlando with a conviction for domestic violence, according to the DHS.

The remaining cases involved Tai Ngoc Ly from Vietnam, arrested on October 8 in Orlando with convictions for sexual assault, robbery, and burglary, and Dinh Doan, also from Vietnam, detained on October 16 in Cocoa with a conviction for arson of an occupied structure.

The announcement of Álvarez Rodríguez’s arrest follows other recent ICE detentions of Cubans. On October 30, Carlos Javier Alamo-Sorino was taken into custody after admitting to voting illegally in a U.S. election. ICE reports that he had prior convictions for sexual assault, another sexual offense, theft, larceny, and harassment.

Additionally, on October 29, the DHS highlighted the case of Armando Suárez, part of its "Worst of the Worst" campaign, with convictions for drug trafficking, larceny, and possession of counterfeit credit cards in Miami, Florida. Suárez was arrested by ICE on October 28.

The "Worst of the Worst" platform, launched on December 8, 2025, aims to disclose information about undocumented immigrants with criminal records. By the end of September 2026, it featured over 40,000 profiles. In February, the DHS acknowledged errors in some records and made corrections following media reports.

This case is part of a larger trend of immigration operations in Florida and across the nation. Stay informed with the latest developments in our U.S. Immigration section.
