Thursday, October 29, 2026 by Abigail Marquez

Eduardo Antonio, affectionately known as "El Divo de Placetas," was awarded the "Special Recognition for Latin Excellence" on Wednesday during the sixth annual Hispanic Celebrities Awards 2026 held at the EB Hotel Miami.

The accolade was introduced by Dominican influencer Fernando Delgado, who highlighted Eduardo's impactful career: "While working at Univision, Sábado Gigante, Don Francisco told him, 'There's a diva in Mexico, but we need a diva from Cuba, and today I name you El Divo de Cuba, from Placetas to the world. With over 18 soap operas, it's an honor to present this award to the one and only divo of Miami, from Placetas, from Cuba to the world, Eduardo Antonio, El Divo de Placetas."

Born in Placetas, Villa Clara, the singer dedicated this honor to his life partner and his late mother: "I dedicate this award to my husband, producer Roy García... and to my mom in heaven."

For Eduardo Antonio, the award holds significant meaning, marking his third recognition in this event. "It's my third award, and I am very proud," he expressed during the celebration.

On the red carpet, Eduardo Antonio made a bold statement with his unique style and shared his artistic philosophy: "We need to laugh, innovate, be brave, and show the world that an artist is neither better nor worse, just different. An artist sets the trend, you know? They make the difference."

Addressing the current moment for the Hispanic community, he delivered a clear message: "We must remain strong, authentic, genuine, unique, brave, and united. Only then can we achieve success."

The event, hosted by JBR Entertainment, brought together Hispanic figures from entertainment, journalism, television, and business sectors. The night's highest honor went to Dominican salsa singer José Alberto "El Canario," celebrated for his 50-year-long career in music.

Additional honorees included Carolina Mejía, mayor of the National District in the Dominican Republic, recognized as "Woman of Impact in Latin America," and journalist Dany Alcántara, awarded as "New Media Leader of the Dominican Republic." Univision's morning show team on La Voz de la Mañana also received a Hispanic Celebrities Award during the event.

Eduardo Antonio continues to amass accolades for his career, having also been recognized in October 2025 as an "LGBTQI+ Icon" for his visibility and contributions to the community. Notably, in May 2026, he exited Telemundo's La Casa de los Famosos 6 after 77 days in the reality show.
