American warships stationed in the Arabian Sea are bolstering their armament in anticipation of possible new orders from President Trump to launch attacks against Iran in the coming weeks, according to U.S. officials involved in the planning.

An exclusive report by The Wall Street Journal, released this past Saturday, offered rare insight into the operations aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington and a guided-missile destroyer patrolling the area.

During nighttime operations observed by the WSJ, the carrier was seen receiving a substantial shipment of munitions, including long-range land-attack missiles and GBU-31 Victor 4 bunker-busting bombs, crafted to penetrate underground facilities and fortified military structures.

Commander Brian Garcia, in charge of onboard weaponry, described the scale of the resupply, noting, "We've got some items arriving that weigh around 4,800 pounds," adding that the munitions are ready to be deployed to the deck whenever the mission demands.

Captain Nicholas DeLeo, the commanding officer of the George Washington, characterized the crew's mindset: “This has been a very busy, complex, and even historic deployment. But frankly, this is exactly what our team trains for. We are always vigilant, focused on our surroundings, and prepared to respond reflexively or proactively.”

Nicknamed the "Vampire Carrier" by its crew, the USS George Washington conducts all flight operations at night, while a second carrier in the region handles daytime operations.

The ship's corridors are illuminated with red lights to help the crew adjust to the night shift. The carrier supports a total complement of 5,000 personnel: 3,000 operate the ship and 2,000 make up the air wing, with over 1,000 sailors stationed on accompanying destroyers, including the USS Shoup.

The strike group, based in Japan, was deployed to the Middle East in August to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln, which set a record with 286 continuous days at sea without a port call.

Shortly after its arrival, the George Washington was involved in strikes against Iranian sites near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian oil tankers, responding to ballistic missiles launched by Iran against the carrier.

Preparations have intensified amid a conflict now entering its eighth month, which has diminished Trump's approval ratings in the United States. Iran has escalated its assaults on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz throughout October: Lloyd's recorded 28 incidents during the month, including missile, drone, and naval mine attacks.

One official quoted in the report commented on the state of readiness, saying, "I wish I had a crystal ball to tell me what's going to happen. In the absence of that, we've got reports, and our reports indicate that commanders across the joint force are gearing up for an escalation. It doesn't mean it will happen, but the preparation is already underway."

Trump had publicly stated he would not strike Iran before the November 3rd midterm elections, yet recent reports suggest he is considering a multi-day campaign of attacks immediately following the elections. The Pentagon emphasized its role is to develop and present military options to the president, with no decisions having been made yet.

Admiral Jeffrey Heams, leading the strike group, advised his crew with caution: "I'll let you know when I know. For now, let's focus on the day-to-day. Make sure we're well-trained for whatever comes and keep pushing hard every day."
