Yunielkis Naranjo Guerra, a cultural promoter and former president of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS) in Camagüey, has reported a motorcycle theft that occurred on Saturday night. He expressed frustration that, even with security camera images of the suspect, police had yet to determine which unit would handle the case two days after the incident.
"Still, at the 1st Police Unit, it's unclear who will manage the case or whether it falls under the 1st or 2nd Unit. Today, Monday, no one has addressed us," Naranjo Guerra shared on Facebook.
The stolen motorcycle belongs to Carlos, the director of the Unidad Provincial de Trabajo Especializado (UPTE) for the sociocultural project "Golpe a Golpe." He had gone to pick up Naranjo Guerra to attend an event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the AHS.
The theft took place around 8:52 p.m. in front of the building where the cultural promoter resides, located in the heart of Camagüey.
Security Footage Provides Clues
According to Naranjo Guerra, surveillance cameras captured a person dressed in black taking the motorcycle, a blue Viking 125 cc, which was parked on the street.
Following the incident, Naranjo Guerra shared images of the suspect on social media, seeking public assistance to recover the vehicle.
As of Monday, he noted that authorities had not officially taken over the investigation. "We have photos, videos, addresses of two suspects—one on parole and another matching the description," he stated. Despite the gathered information, Naranjo Guerra lamented the lack of a concrete police response. "We remain in the agony of the complaint," he expressed.
Rising Motorcycle Thefts in Camagüey
This case is just one among several recent motorcycle thefts reported in Camagüey. Earlier in October, a young man suffered a broken arm after being hit with a stone during a motorcycle robbery.
In September, another resident reported a thief posing as a buyer who fled with his motorcycle after pretending to negotiate.
As of Naranjo Guerra's last update on Monday, there had been no news of the motorcycle's recovery or the arrest of any suspect related to the theft.
