A member of the Special Brigade from the Ministry of the Interior, known as MININT, was shot during an operation aimed at capturing a fugitive wanted for robbery in the Guane municipality of Pinar del Río.
The Facebook page "De Pinar Soy," which supports MININT activities in the province, reported the incident, confirming that both the officer and the suspect sustained injuries. Fortunately, neither is in a life-threatening condition.
The operation's goal was to apprehend a man from Cienfuegos, who had evaded justice for charges related to forceful robbery. Authorities received intelligence that the suspect was hiding in a residence within the Guane Popular Council. This led to the deployment of the Special Brigade, the Technical Investigation Directorate (DTI), and various other police units to the location.
As the search of the premises progressed, the suspect reportedly brandished a firearm and discharged it, striking an officer in the left arm. In response, police used rubber bullets to subdue the individual, who was then taken to a hospital. Along with the officer, his condition is considered stable.
The same source indicated that the operation resulted in the seizure of the firearm and over 300,000 Cuban pesos, believed to be linked to a theft that occurred at a home in the Isabel Rubio Popular Council, also in Guane.
As of now, the name of the injured officer has not been released, nor have there been any medical reports or official statements from MININT regarding the details of the confrontation.
