Tragic Discovery in Miami: Dog Found Dead, Tied to Bricks Underwater – What We Know

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 by Matthew Diaz

This week, a disturbing discovery in Miami has left the community in shock: a deceased dog was found submerged in water, its legs bound to concrete blocks, within a sunken sailboat in the main channel of Dinner Key Marina, located in the Coconut Grove neighborhood.

The unsettling images and video of the dog, shared on social media by user Barbie Wynn, have sparked outrage and prompted a police investigation.

Community Outrage Over Disturbing Incident

Wynn posted the images on Tuesday within the "Miami Beach Community" Facebook group, urging the public to help identify those responsible.

"I apologize if these photos or video are disturbing, but I believe it's crucial to share this information to help identify the owner and hopefully determine what happened and who might be accountable," she expressed.

The brief eight-second clip reveals a medium-sized dog submerged and tethered by its legs to the blocks. An additional photo depicts the dog out of the water, still chained and showing evident signs of decomposition.

In the video, the recorder can be heard exclaiming, "Oh my God, this is the worst thing I've ever seen. It's tied to a brick."

According to Wynn, the dog was discovered "in a sunken sailboat, in the main channel, just before reaching the docks," near the boat ramp at 2900 South Bayshore Drive.

Police Response and Case Transfer

Within two hours, the Miami Beach Police Department responded to the Facebook thread. "The Miami Beach Police Department takes reports of alleged animal cruelty seriously," the agency stated, requesting the discoverer to provide "the exact location, along with any additional information about the circumstances."

Upon reviewing the situation, Miami Beach police concluded that the incident took place in Coconut Grove, within the City of Miami's jurisdiction, and transferred the case accordingly.

As reported by El Nuevo Herald, Officer Christopher Bess, spokesperson for the agency, confirmed that detectives and an animal welfare specialist worked to verify the authenticity of the report. The Miami Police then took over the investigation.

"Detectives are actively investigating the incident, following leads to determine the case's circumstances and identify those responsible," the agency stated.

Municipal crews removed the dog's body from the water, although the concrete blocks and rope remained at the site when journalists arrived.

Ongoing Investigation and Official Reactions

Miami Commissioner Damian Pardo described the act as "incredibly cruel and inhumane," noting that he contacted the police immediately.

Investigators have reached out to a potential owner of the dog but have not confirmed any ownership links. This individual was arrested on unrelated charges, and as of Wednesday, no charges or arrests directly connected to the suspected abuse had been announced.

This incident is part of a growing number of similar cases in the metropolitan area. Last September, a man was arrested for aggravated animal cruelty after abandoning a puppy on the balcony of a luxury building in downtown Miami under deplorable conditions, a case that also went viral on social media.

Legal Framework and Rewards for Information

Under Florida Statute 828.12, aggravated animal cruelty is a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and fines reaching 10,000 dollars. A reform effective from October 1, 2026, has intensified penalties, mandating a minimum fine of 2,500 dollars and requiring psychological counseling for a first conviction involving intentional torture.

Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to 5,000 dollars for anonymous tips leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Miami Police at 305-579-6111 or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
