Baby Lores' Heartfelt Tribute to His Ailing Mother in Cuba: "I Am Strong and Will Remain Strong"

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 by Matthew Diaz

This Wednesday, Baby Lores shared a touching message from his mother in Cuba amid the family's distress after Cuban authorities barred him from traveling to the island to support her during her illness.

With his mother's permission, the singer posted a video on Facebook where she speaks directly to him, attempting to convey calm despite the challenging circumstances they face.

"Don't worry, my love. I am proud of you, of your values, and your strength to face all the challenges life has thrown at you," she tells him.

His mother also addressed comments from some individuals who celebrated the artist's inability to enter Cuba, due to his political past and his former tattoo of Fidel Castro's face.

Rather than reproach him for that period in his life, she emphasized her pride in him and the necessity for him to move forward.

In one of the most poignant parts of the message, she even mentioned the possibility of her condition worsening, though she quickly tried to remain hopeful: "This might not be the last, but if it is, I am happy to have had such a good, dedicated son."

Another heartfelt moment came when she expressed her longing to hug him, but once again attempted to reassure him from afar: "I would love to hug you. But here I am. I am strong, and I will remain strong, do you hear me? A big kiss," she concluded.

Baby Lores accompanied the video with a lengthy message explaining his decision to share his mother's words, highlighting a family divided by circumstances preventing them from being together in a particularly delicate time.

"Mom, you say you're proud of me, but I'm the one who's proud of you. I know the warrior you are, and I know you'll come through this," he wrote.

The artist stressed that he does not intend to turn the family's pain into a spectacle but to reflect a reality familiar to many Cuban families forced to endure severe situations on both sides of a border.

"Thousands of Cuban families know what it means to need each other but face a border, a decision, or a circumstance that prevents them from embracing," he noted.

Lores stated that moving forward, his priority will be to explore "all possible legal and humanitarian avenues" to ensure his mother receives the medical care she needs and, eventually, to reunite with the family, whether in the United States or another viable location.

"I'm not asking for privileges. I'm seeking a solution for my mother," he emphasized.

For now, Baby Lores holds onto the hope of embracing his mother again: "I know you'll get through this. We have a lot of life ahead of us. And I'll do everything legally possible to hold you. I love you, mom," he concluded.

This new message comes just four days after Lores revealed that Cuban authorities denied him entry when he urgently traveled to see her while she was in intensive care.

He recounted that he purchased a ticket in Miami, boarded the plane, and was seated when an airline employee informed him just before departure that he had to disembark because Cuba hadn't authorized his entry.

In an interview with Telemundo 51 this Wednesday, Lores revisited the incident and his past association with the Cuban regime.

He acknowledged that period without attempting to hide it and mentioned that he now understands the pain of exile and the suffering of those separated from their families in a different light.

For years, the musician faced criticism for his public support of the Cuban system and for having Fidel Castro's face tattooed. In June 2017, he chose to cover that image with another tattoo, marking the start of a public distancing from the regime.
