Dollar Holds Steady at 770 CUP as Euro Declines and MLC Rises in Cuba's Informal Market

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 by Emily Vargas

As of 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 6, Cuba's informal currency market exhibited mixed trends: the U.S. dollar remained unchanged, the euro saw a decline, and the MLC experienced a noticeable increase. However, caution is advised with the MLC's rate due to the limited volume of transactions.

The U.S. dollar (USD) is stable at 770 Cuban pesos (CUP), maintaining the same rate as the previous day.

This stability presents a breather after several weeks of upward pressure. Just a week ago, the dollar was valued at 753 CUP, marking a 17 peso increase over the week, approximately 2.3%.

Euro's Trajectory and MLC's Surge

Meanwhile, the euro (EUR) has fallen to 865 CUP from 872 CUP the previous day, a decrease of 7 pesos.

Despite this daily drop, the euro remains above its value from a week ago when it was priced at 855 CUP and still holds a significant lead over the dollar by 95 pesos per euro.

The most significant movement comes from the Convertible Peso (MLC), which jumped from 578 to roughly 603 CUP, a rise of 25 pesos.

However, this rate should be approached with caution, as the data indicates a low volume for the MLC. In just a week, its reference value has surged from around 500 to over 600 CUP.

Exchange Rate Disparities and Economic Impact

The key exchange rates as of Tuesday are as follows:

  • USD to CUP: 770 CUP
  • EUR to CUP: 865 CUP
  • MLC to CUP: 603 CUP (indicative value, limited data)

The official exchange rate, set by the Central Bank of Cuba for Segment III, stands at 695 CUP per dollar and 779 CUP per euro, still below the rates seen in the informal market.

The gap is now 75 CUP per dollar and 86 CUP per euro.

Although this exchange segment was introduced as a more flexible mechanism, the significant difference with the parallel market continues to highlight the challenges faced by the official supply in meeting currency demand.

Amidst inflation, low wages, and the increasing presence of foreign currencies in certain sectors of the Cuban economy, these fluctuations directly affect the purchasing power of the population and the prices of numerous goods and services.

The CiberCuba Exchange Rate is an informal market index created through automated analysis of thousands of buy and sell ads posted in Telegram and Facebook groups. The system filters out outliers and spam messages, weighs offers based on their age, and updates values several times daily.
