The White House has declared that the agenda promoted by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) could result in a net cost exceeding $49 trillion over the next decade, equating to approximately $355,000 per American household.

This estimate is detailed in the report titled "The Real Cost of Socialism in America," released by the Council of Economic Advisers and shared on the White House's official website.

The analysis within the document examined eight key policy proposals associated with the DSA: complete student debt cancellation and free college tuition; open borders with immigration amnesty; abolition of the police and prison systems; Medicare for All; universal rent control; the Green New Deal; a 32-hour workweek; and a 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires.

The report specifies that seven of these initiatives can be quantified in terms of federal budget impact, collectively resulting in a net effect of $48.9 trillion from 2027 to 2036.

The most significant proposal is Medicare for All, estimated at $47.41 trillion, followed by student debt cancellation and free college tuition at $3.60 trillion. The study notes that the wealth tax would generate about $3.94 trillion but would fall short of offsetting the projected expenditures.

The White House further asserts that financing this package through increased debt could cause 10-year Treasury bond yields to rise by 5.8 percentage points, exceeding 10%, and elevate mortgage rates above 12%. Additionally, it warns of potential double-digit inflation and an additional cumulative price increase of 130 to 160 percentage points over a decade.

Alternatively, if funded through taxes, the report predicts a permanent 14.6% reduction in real annual GDP, a nearly 19.2% annual contraction of the product, and an average household income loss of $22,000 annually, due to post-tax hourly wage declines.

The official White House website summarizes the message in political and domestic terms, stating that "the real cost of socialism for your family" would amount to around $355,000 per household, highlighting this calculation as a warning about the program's potential impact on deficits, taxes, wages, inflation, and credit.

The release of this report aligns with a broader rhetorical campaign by Washington against socialism and radical leftist ideologies.

Recently, the State Department shared a message from Marco Rubio criticizing "radical leftism," while Senator Rick Scott cited Cuba as an example of socialist failure, and Congressman Carlos Giménez opposed the adoption of such ideas in the United States.
