Cuban Man Stumbles Upon Seven-Year-Old Video of His Mother, Urges: "Call Your Mom Today"

Tuesday, October 6, 2026 by Ava Castillo

A Cuban immigrant recently stumbled upon a video from 2019 while browsing through his gallery, and it brought him to tears. The footage showed his younger mother smiling as she cleaned peanuts in the field alongside his father, who has since passed away. He shared his emotional reaction on TikTok under the handle "Grei, El animal de Cuba 87," turning the clip into a heartfelt plea for everyone who still has the chance to hear their mother's voice.

"Today, I found a video in my gallery that took me back seven years and reminded me of how quickly life passes by," Grei expressed to the camera, visibly moved by the memories.

In the cherished video, his mother casually talks about her work: "As you can see, I'm here cleaning to be able to plant it, so this is on fire because you have to take out the black, the split, and you know, just keep moving forward." Grei watches her tenderly and remarks, "Look how beautiful that old lady is, what a lovely woman."

The discovery is bittersweet, as his father was still alive in the 2019 video. "There, my mom was cleaning peanuts for my dad to plant, and at that time, my dad was alive, he was with us," he reminisces. Grei also notes his own changes over time: "That's me, too, with fewer gray hairs."

Separated from his mother for over four years, Grei finds solace in their daily calls. "Today, I'm grateful to be able to call her every day, to see that smile and hear that voice that gives me so much strength," he shares.

The two-minute and 33-second video concludes with a direct message to his followers, whom he affectionately calls "animals": "Call your mom today and tell her how much you love her, tell her how much you miss her, because you can recover many things in life, but you can't regain the time lost with your mom."

This type of content deeply resonates with the Cuban diaspora, where prolonged family separations impact tens of thousands. Stories of Cuban immigrants sharing reunions or memories of loved ones often go viral, echoing the collective nostalgia and pain caused by distance.

Many other Cubans have shared similarly poignant moments recalling their mothers, as massive emigration continues to split families between the island and abroad.

"If you still have the blessing to hear your mom, see her smile, and know she's there... cherish that privilege," Grei wrote in the video's description, concluding with an urgent plea: "Call her today. Not tomorrow. Today."
