An alligator farm in Homestead is set to transform the Everglades into the backdrop of a terrifying "prison break" experience for one night only. This eerie event will feature actors, fog effects, immersive scenes, encounters with alligators and snakes, and a thrilling nighttime airboat ride.

The event, aptly named "Gatorween: Prison Break" (a clever play on words combining 'alligator' and 'Halloween'), is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at the Everglades Alligator Farm, located at 40351 SW 192nd Ave in Homestead.

Exclusively for adults over 18, the event will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Participants must choose from three entry times — 7:30, 8:00, or 8:30 p.m. — and the entire experience will last approximately 80 to 90 minutes.

General admission tickets are priced at $65 per person, with an advance sale priced at $50 available until September 20. Purchasing tickets in advance is required due to limited capacity.

The adventure kicks off with supervised interactions with alligators and snakes, followed by a 30-minute nighttime airboat tour of the Everglades. It concludes with a spooky trail through the farm, featuring actors, thematic sets, fog effects, loud noises, and jump scares.

Organizers of this Homestead attraction caution that the event is not suitable for individuals with heart conditions, epilepsy, or those sensitive to intense environments. Comfortable footwear is recommended for navigating the natural terrain at night.

This is a one-time event and all sales are final due to limited capacity. Attendees are advised to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled entry time.

The farm emphasizes that this is not a typical haunted house but rather a unique experience combining wildlife, nighttime boating, and a prison break storyline.

The theme, however, inevitably draws parallels to Alligator Alcatraz, a migrant detention center that operated in the Everglades until June of this year.

Univision highlighted this comparison by pointing out the similarities between a prison surrounded by alligators, the Everglades, and a prison break story now turned into Halloween entertainment.

Hoodline also noted that the event's premise has led to comparisons with local detention facilities, although it clarified that there is no official evidence suggesting the farm drew inspiration from Alligator Alcatraz. The event's organizer does not make this claim on the official event page.

This distinction is crucial because Alligator Alcatraz was surrounded by very real allegations regarding the conditions in which detainees were held.

A report by the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General documented overcrowding, small metal cages, hygiene issues, and other deficiencies.

Among the findings was the use of metal enclosures measuring just 1.7 square meters, where dozens of migrants were confined.

Inspectors also discovered that, at full capacity, the space available per detainee was far below the required standards and noted complaints about medical delays, insufficient hygiene items, poor food quality, and extended periods without outdoor access.
