Starting Monday, October 5th, CiberCuba introduces its latest podcast, $how me the mon€y, which focuses on Cubans who have successfully established businesses beyond the island. The series delves into the real expenses, setbacks, and pivotal choices that transformed their ventures.
Discussions about the Cuban diaspora often focus on immigration statistics: how many arrived, where they entered, and their legal status. Rarely do we explore the subsequent journey of entrepreneurship, where individuals launch businesses, employ others, and support families on both sides of the strait. This is the narrative that $how me the mon€y aims to uncover.
Airing weekly across platforms like YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Facebook, and cibercuba.com, each episode will be accompanied by a detailed article. The podcast features a 40 to 60-minute video interview with a single guest per episode, asking the tough questions: What were the initial costs? How did they secure funding? What obstacles did they face, and what would they change if given a second chance? The show avoids grandiose tales and miracle solutions.
The podcast is hosted by Katia Sánchez, a Cuban communicator and entrepreneur with a degree in Social Communication from the University of Havana.
Sánchez founded La Penúltima Casa, a digital communication agency, in 2019 and participated in the U.S. government’s IVLP and YLAI professional exchange programs.
Prior to this venture, she co-founded and hosted El Pitch, a podcast exploring Cuba's entrepreneurial ecosystem, which ran for three seasons and 40 episodes. She also launched El Pitch Festival in Havana and Medellín, featuring participants from over ten countries. Currently, Sánchez leads Digi K, a creative agency based in Miami.
From YouTube Recipes to Michelin Star
The premiere episode showcases Osmel González, chef and co-owner of Emelina, a fine dining Cuban restaurant in West Palm Beach that earned a Michelin star in May 2026, only a few months after its opening.
Emelina is reportedly the first Cuban restaurant worldwide to receive such an accolade.
González, born and raised in Cuba, studied food chemistry before moving to Miami at 22, where he started from scratch. He initially worked at a barbecue joint and launched a catering service, learning recipes from YouTube on the advice of a friend.
Over time, he honed his culinary skills at high-end restaurants in the U.S. and Spain, including Matador Room, Disfrutar, and SingleThread.
He also served as the chef and co-founder of EntreNos at Tinta y Café, which earned Michelin stars in 2024 and 2025, along with a Green Star in 2025, before closing in July of that year.
In 2026, González opened Emelina with chef Camila Salazar and restaurateur Álvaro Pérez Miranda, offering a reimagined Cuban cuisine through a high-end tasting menu for 16 guests.
Innovation and Technology on the Horizon
The second episode, airing on October 12th, features Erick Remedios, co-founder and business director of Let's Prototype, a company that transforms concepts and inventions into functional products and prototypes with labs in Madrid and Miami.
Remedios spent over a decade with BusinessInFact, one of Spain's most active business angel networks, and since 2020, he has led the company's expansion into the United States.
In January 2025, Let's Prototype was awarded the Keys to Miami-Dade County for its contributions to technological innovation.
This season will explore various sectors — from gastronomy to real estate, professional services, healthcare, retail, and technology — all sharing one commonality: a compelling business story.
