Hilarious Cuban Sketch Highlights Class Divide in Maternity Ward

Cuban content creator Rachel Téllez (@rachel_tellez2) has once again captivated social media with a comedic sketch that contrasts the experiences of the wealthy and the less fortunate in a maternity ward, sparking laughter and comments on Instagram.

The video, which runs just under three minutes, pits two distinct characters against each other in a doctor's consultation. One is a high-society woman, meticulously planned and accompanied by her husband, while the other is a woman from a modest background who arrives alone, juggling several rambunctious children and even a dog that sneaks into the office.

The humor begins immediately. The "elegant" lady, full of decorum and manners, expresses her gratitude to the doctor with utmost solemnity: "Thank you, doctor, for seeing us today. We're so eager to meet our princess, right, my dear?" She explains that her pregnancy resulted from fertility treatments and that the nanny, who will care for the baby, has been with the family for generations: "The nanny was my great-grandmother's, my grandmother's, my mother's, mine, and now she'll care for the baby."

Meanwhile, the other character presents a strikingly different reality, embodying the quintessential Cuban spirit. Chewing gum and with exaggerated gestures, she explains her husband's absence as he's "getting a picture taken," and she's accompanied by a dog named Sisobra. Pregnant and ready to give birth, she juggles a baby in her arms and three other children—two from a previous marriage and one from her husband—as they bicker in the waiting room. In an attempt to maintain order, she shouts, "Hey, don't hit your sister! What did I tell you about hitting? Pull her hair, don't just stand there!"

Chaos reaches its peak when the dog bursts into the consultation room, and she struggles to shoo it out: "Oh doctor, now the dog won't leave." Exhausted and resigned, she admits, "My husband said he couldn't make it here. You know how I am? Exhausted, I'm losing it."

This sketch taps into a deeply rooted tradition of Cuban humor on social media, caricaturing recognizable social archetypes that resonate immediately with both those on the island and the diaspora.
