Cuban poet and independent journalist Ariel Maceo Téllez has delivered a forceful denunciation of the country's dictatorship through a post on X, asserting that the regime's actions are beyond forgiveness.
"They are destroying the nation without any regard for what happens to the people. They've held power for 67 years and still cling to the same oppressive system, doing so openly before the world. I reiterate, they are unforgivable," emphasized Maceo.
His statement comes at a time considered one of the most challenging in Cuba's history.

Born in Havana in 1986, Maceo has endured a long history of government persecution due to his political activism. He coordinated Demóngeles, a platform for independent artists excluded from official cultural institutions, and has faced censorship with four of his books unpublished in Cuba due to his critical stance.
In October 2021, State Security interrogated him at a "safe house" in Siboney, pressuring him to sign a document renouncing his literature and activism in exchange for lifting his travel ban. He refused.
During this interrogation, an officer known as "Juan Carlos" warned him: "We know what you eat, who you meet, everything about your family. We follow you everywhere. Anything can happen to you on the street." Maceo publicly exposed this incident in January 2026 after recognizing the officer on Cuban state television.
Escape and Continued Resistance
In August 2023, after more than two years of restrictions, Maceo managed to leave Cuba for Mexico. "The dictatorship didn't like me writing poetry," he remarked at the time.
From exile, he continues to challenge those who downplay Cuba's crisis. Last March, he criticized Spanish politician Pablo Iglesias for trivializing the island's situation from a five-star hotel in Old Havana after meeting with representatives of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Maceo accused Iglesias of attempting to deceive about the country's reality, speaking from a privileged position disconnected from the everyday hardships faced by most Cuban citizens.
