The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at the crossroads of Northwest 36th Street and Northwest 87th Avenue. A red GMC truck driver, experiencing a heart-related medical emergency, lost control and ran a red light, crashing head-on into a white car, as reported by WSVN.
Following the initial collision, three additional vehicles collided behind the white car, resulting in at least five vehicles being involved in the accident.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue classified the situation as a Level 1 Mass Casualty Event, dispatching nearly 18 emergency units, including the Technical Rescue Team, to the scene.
The driver of the white vehicle was trapped beneath the truck, with the doors ripped off and airbags deployed. Rescuers had to extricate him from the wreckage, after which he was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
"We had about 18 units responding to this call, including our Technical Rescue units, which used the Jaws of Life to remove one of the patients from the vehicle. We had two critical patients, one transported by air rescue and the other by ground to a local hospital," stated Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief, Rogelio Vandamas.

Gustavo Pérez, a survivor traveling with his wife and their dog Mia in a white Honda Pilot, recounted the impact: "What surprises me is the speed the truck picked up. The truck took off in front of me, running the red light, and suddenly crossed the intersection, hitting all those cars."
Other witnesses described the collision's force as so intense that they mistook it for an explosion. "We thought it was a small explosion," one witness told NBC Miami.
The intersection remained closed for several hours as investigators worked to piece together the events, causing significant traffic delays in the area. The road was reopened later in the afternoon.
