Bruno Rodríguez Denounces Trump's UN Speech as "Lies and Slander"

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla responded on Tuesday to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, labeling Trump's statements as "lies" and "slander" in a social media post.

During the multilateral forum, Trump declared that Cuba is "an utterly failed state" and predicted the downfall of its regime. In protest, the Cuban delegation walked out of the UN hall while Trump delivered his speech.

Rodríguez Parrilla took to social media to reject the words of the U.S. president. "The U.S. government cannot accept that Cuba is a fully independent and sovereign nation, with the right to remain so. None of the lies or slander by the U.S. President at the United Nations can deny this truth," Rodríguez stated.

The Cuban diplomat also condemned the U.S. embargo, describing it as an "act of genocide and collective punishment." "The economic blockade, including energy restrictions, threatens Cuba and other nations. We are a nation of peace and deserve peace," the foreign minister declared.

In his address, Trump concluded the segment on Cuba with a vow: "Communism will never come to America, but freedom will come to Cuba."

The U.S. president also accused the Cuban regime of "spending decades coordinating with leftist radicals and communist networks" within the United States, referencing the U.S. Communist Party, Antifa, and the Democratic Socialists of America, citing a State Department report released in July 2026.

Trump further claimed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is "leading negotiations" with Havana, a statement that directly contradicts Rodríguez Parrilla's assertion on September 8: "There have been no negotiations, no agreements, nor roadmaps."

Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel also reacted on social media, echoing Rodríguez Parrilla's sentiments, accusing Trump of resorting to lies at the UN. "Unable to justify the punishment against the Cuban people and his genocidal economic war, the U.S. president repeats at the UN that Cuba is a threat. Lies are the refuge of those who deny the Cuban people's right to self-determination," Díaz-Canel said.

Rodríguez is scheduled to formally address the General Assembly on Friday, September 26, where the regime will provide its official response from the same platform where Trump issued his warnings earlier this week.
