In Holguín, the Héroes del 26 de Julio Mechanical Company (Holmeca) is currently assembling 24 Belarus tractors, each boasting 80 horsepower, for future sales. This information was revealed on Tuesday by Cubadebate, based on a report from the Cuban News Agency (ACN). The project is highlighted as part of Cuba's ongoing economic transformations.
The 24 tractors, identified as Belarus MTZ models, are being assembled through a cooperative production effort between Holmeca and the Divep Commercial Company of Holguín. This follows training that Cuban factory technicians received in Belarus.
Juan Cardet Bruzón, the head of Holmeca's technical department, noted that the new MTZ tractors, with their 80 horsepower engines, feature several upgrades and are divided into three major systems: mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical.
The initiative extends beyond just assembling these machines. Holmeca's commercial director, Ramón Pifferrer Martínez, stated that the agreement paves the way for "access to the foreign currency market, both within and outside the national territory," while also opening doors for new partnerships and expanding their client base.

Holmeca's experience with such projects dates back to December 2024, when the newspaper Trabajadores reported the assembly of 12 MTZ tractors with 35 horsepower from Belarus, with plans to complete an additional 36 units. This production followed negotiations that began in late 2023 during the Havana International Fair.
The current shipment of 24 units arrives at a particularly challenging time for Cuban agriculture. In May, sector leaders acknowledged that due to a shortage of fuel and resources, there has been a return to using oxen, windmills, and other low-tech alternatives to sustain certain productions.
Moreover, the assembly of Belarus machinery ties into the longstanding economic relationship between Cuba and Belarus. In April, Minsk extended the compensated trade agreement, whereby Cuba provides pharmaceutical products in exchange for Belarusian vehicles, agricultural machinery, medical devices, and other goods.
