A 38-year-old Cuban man was apprehended in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, on allegations of orchestrating an armed assault in Cancún that resulted in one fatality and two injuries.
The arrest was verified by Quintana Roo's Attorney General, Raciel López Salazar, as reported by Noticaribe.
The suspect, officially identified as Y.A. "N," was sought in connection with events that transpired on September 4 in Cancún's Villas Otoch Paraíso neighborhood.
Investigators revealed that the Cuban suspect had allegedly arranged to meet Daisy Cecilia "N" and José Guadalupe "N" under the pretense of handing over keys to a rental property.
The duo arrived accompanied by a man named Pastor "N."
Upon arrival, the trio was ambushed by an armed individual wielding a 9mm handgun, who opened fire on them, according to the authorities' reconstruction.
Pastor was fatally shot at the scene, while Daisy Cecilia and José Guadalupe sustained injuries to their torsos.
The two survivors managed to escape in a vehicle seeking medical assistance and were subsequently aided by police and paramedics on Kabah Avenue. They were both transported to Cancún General Hospital.
Residents in the vicinity reported hearing between eight to ten gunshots, triggering the activation of the security "red code."
The primary hypothesis of the Prosecutor's Office suggests the attack was carried out under the orders of the now-detained Cuban, who fled the scene and was later located in Playa del Carmen.
