The search for Alexander Pantoja Bertot, an employee of the Electric Company in Santiago de Cuba who disappeared last Thursday while on duty, continues into Sunday with a comprehensive operation involving drones, canine squads, rescuers, police, and electrical sector workers.
Aris Arias Batalla, the provincial head of Operations and Relief for the Red Cross in Santiago de Cuba, announced on Facebook this Saturday that new measures have been coordinated to enhance both aerial and ground searches starting Sunday, September 13.
Coordinated Efforts for Search Operation
According to Arias Batalla, provincial authorities, along with representatives from GEOCUBA, ETECSA, and the Cuban Red Cross, worked together to resume aerial searches using drones while continuing the ground search efforts.
On Saturday, teams of electrical workers from Palma Soriano, Contramaestre, and Tercer Frente joined forces with the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), rescue teams, a canine brigade, and local farmers in the search.
Community and Family Support
Additional support came from 50 electrical workers from the municipality of Santiago de Cuba and a canine brigade from Mella to bolster the efforts.
"We continue our search. We hold onto hope," expressed Arias Batalla, urging anyone with information to contact authorities or the family to aid in locating the missing worker.
Alexander vanished on Thursday while conducting a work inspection of the power line supplying the Gota Blanca reservoir, located in a rural area between Palma Soriano and Contramaestre.
The official statement from the Electric Company Santiago de Cuba expressed deep concern for Alexander's family, stating that he disappeared while fulfilling work duties.
Yaima Bertot, Alexander's sister, also turned to social media to seek assistance and express gratitude for the collective effort: "A huge thank you to everyone putting their energy and effort into finding my brother. We sincerely hope you maintain this positive energy, and may God give you strength and clarity to locate him. We all await his return home."
Expanding Search Operations
Since Thursday, the operation has expanded to include electrical workers, police forces, rescuers, and trained dogs, while family members and colleagues remain hopeful for Alexander's safe return.
