Early Saturday morning, a shooting incident in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the hospitalization of two others. Authorities describe the event as a likely domestic violence situation.
The Miami Police Department reported that officers were dispatched around 6:30 a.m. to the intersection of Northwest 17th Avenue and Third Street, in proximity to LoanDepot Park, after receiving reports of gunfire in the vicinity.
Upon arrival, the police discovered three adults suffering from gunshot wounds and a 13-year-old girl with minor head injuries.
Miami Fire Rescue pronounced two of the adults, a man and a woman whose identities remain undisclosed, dead at the scene.
A third adult male, aged 32, was transported in critical condition to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the leading trauma facility in southern Florida.
The young girl was admitted to the hospital in stable condition. Emergency personnel clarified that her injury was "a laceration caused by some form of impact, not a knife."
Officer Kenia Fallat, spokesperson for the Miami Police, confirmed that "the circumstances surrounding this incident appear to be linked to domestic violence."
At the scene, officers detained a man, placing him in the back of a patrol car, while orange cones and crime scene tape cordoned off the entrance to a house on the corner. However, no formal arrests had been made at the time of reporting as the investigation was still ongoing.
Such tragedies are not unfamiliar in Miami-Dade. In June this year, a family of four was discovered dead in Doral in a case that shook the community. In April, a man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and stepson in the same area. Earlier in the year, a Cuban mother and daughter were fatally shot in Greenacres in an apparent murder-suicide.
The police urge anyone with information about this case to anonymously contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
