Daniella Levine Cava Addresses Amazon Plane Incident in Miami: "We're Closely Monitoring the Situation"

Miami-Dade's Mayor, Daniella Levine Cava, spoke out this Sunday following a serious incident involving a cargo plane operating for Amazon Prime Air that veered off the runway at Miami International Airport (MIA), engulfed in flames and a towering plume of black smoke.

"We are closely monitoring the situation at @iflymia after this afternoon's incident involving a Prime Air cargo aircraft," Levine Cava posted on her X account.

The mayor also confirmed that both Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams and airport personnel were actively responding at the scene.

"Right now, our focus is on everyone involved and ensuring that our first responders have everything they need," she emphasized.

Levine Cava mentioned that authorities will release more information as details about the incident emerge.

The incident involved a Boeing 767-300 cargo plane operated by 21 Air for Amazon Prime Air.

The aircraft overshot the runway upon landing at around 2:00 p.m. this Sunday at Miami International Airport.

Flight 7598 had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, bound for Miami. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed it will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Initial images of the emergency showed the massive plane off the runway area, with visible flames and a thick column of black smoke rising from the site.

Videos shared from nearby areas also depicted halted vehicles as emergency teams responded to the scene. Early images showed the fuselage largely intact despite the overwhelming smoke and fire.

Miami International Airport is managed by Miami-Dade County, led by Levine Cava. The mayor's response came as firefighters, airport staff, and other emergency teams continued their operations in the area.
