U.S. Dollar Holds Steady While Euro Shows Surprising Shift in Cuba This Sunday

This Sunday, the U.S. dollar remains unchanged in Cuba's informal market, with an average value of 683 CUP. In contrast, the euro experiences a slight decline to 775 CUP, and the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) drops to an indicative value of 444 CUP.

Compared to the previous day, the dollar stays stable while the euro shows a decrease of 1.5 CUP (-0.2%), and the MLC falls by 7.5 CUP (-1.7%).

Weekly Exchange Rate Trends

Over the past week, the dollar has continued its upward trend. It stood at 675 CUP a week ago and has risen to 683 CUP this Sunday, marking an increase of 7.5 CUP (+1.1%).

The euro also remains above its level from last week, increasing from 763 CUP to 775 CUP, with a change of 12.5 CUP (+1.6%).

On the other hand, the MLC shows a downward trend, with its current reference at 444 CUP compared to 468 CUP a week ago, resulting in a decrease of 24.5 CUP (-5.2%).

Monthly Currency Fluctuations

Looking at the monthly comparison, the dollar has risen from 673 CUP to 683 CUP, a gain of 10 CUP (+1.5%).

Meanwhile, the euro is below the 784 CUP it registered 30 days ago, opening this Sunday at 775 CUP, a decline of 8.5 CUP (-1.1%).

The MLC currently hovers around 444 CUP, down from 446 CUP a month ago, a small drop of 2.5 CUP (-0.6%).

Dollar Reaches 30-Day High

Over the past 30 days, the dollar has ranged between a low of 663 CUP and a high of 683 CUP, which is the level it starts at this Sunday.

The euro has fluctuated between 746 CUP and 785 CUP during the same period. Although it shows a decrease this Sunday, it remains above last week's value.

The MLC has experienced much greater volatility, with values ranging from 408 CUP to 529 CUP, though limited data currently requires caution in interpreting its rate.

As of September 6, the official rate for the public, set by Segment III of the Cuban Central Bank (BCC), is 640 CUP per dollar and 744 CUP per euro.

In the past 30 days, the official dollar rate has increased from 618 CUP to 640 CUP, while the official euro rate has risen from 713 CUP to 744 CUP. During this time, the official dollar peaked at 640 CUP with a low of 618 CUP; the euro reached a high of 745 CUP and a low of 713 CUP.
