Over 1,500 Reports of ICE Sightings Stir U.S. Communities

In a startling revelation, various communities across the United States reported 1,516 encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents over just one week. This figure, released by Telemundo 51 based on data from the iceout.org platform, highlights the widespread impact of ICE operations.

During at least three weeks in August, the report identifies Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, and Seattle as the cities with the highest levels of reported activity. This points to the enduring intensity of immigration operations across the nation.

Iceout.org, the digital platform of the community project People Over Papers, empowers citizens to report and track ICE agent sightings in real-time using a collaborative map. Reports submitted to the platform undergo verification by moderators before publication, employing the SALUTE method — an acronym for size, activity, location, unit, time, and equipment — to standardize the information.

This initiative operates with the support of over 40 volunteers across different time zones and was relaunched under the domain iceout.org after being unexpectedly removed from Padlet for alleged content policy violations. The co-founder, known only as "Celeste" for security reasons, has publicly denounced the threats received due to her work, stating, "I never imagined ICE would go to such extremes," as reported by Univision.

The documented encounters are part of an ongoing surge in immigration operations under Donald Trump's second term. In August 2026, the Department of Homeland Security recorded approximately 50,925 arrests, setting a new monthly record that surpassed the 49,571 arrests in July, which itself had broken the June record of 39,563 individuals processed by ICE.

Miami has emerged as the epicenter of this activity in South Florida, with the local ICE office leading the nation in immigration arrests, averaging 120 detentions per day and over 41,000 arrests between January 2025 and April 2026.

From August 2025 to August 23, 2026, Florida reported 31,399 migrant arrests under local collaboration agreements with ICE, including 451 arrests in Miami, of which 131 were Cubans. Notably, arrests of Cubans by ICE surged 463% between late 2024 and early 2026, according to an analysis by the Cato Institute. As of January 2026, there were 42,084 Cubans in the U.S. with final deportation orders.

At the end of June, ICE exceeded 10,000 detentions in just five days, achieving an average of 2,000 daily arrests, the operational standard set by the Trump administration as a target for mass deportation.
