The Diocese of Cienfuegos announced on Thursday that the bishop is receiving medical care in the Multipurpose ICU at Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima University General Hospital.
According to a second health update, Bishop Oropesa was admitted due to an infected hydronephrosis, necessitating an operation. During the surgery, doctors placed an internal-external catheter to clear the urinary blockage and successfully removed the stone causing the obstruction.
The Diocese stated, "Our Bishop is currently stable and responding well to antibiotic treatment." His blood pressure remains stable and controlled, and as of the last medical report, he has not experienced a recurrence of fever.
The bishop's hospitalization was first disclosed by the Diocese the previous day. The initial statement explained that he was admitted to the ICU on Wednesday afternoon due to a "severe kidney condition" and would need to remain hospitalized for several days for monitoring and medical care.

Domingo Oropesa Lorente was born on October 10, 1950, in Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real, Spain. He arrived in Cuba as a missionary priest in 1999. He was appointed Bishop of Cienfuegos by Pope Benedict XVI on July 9, 2007, and was consecrated and took possession of the diocese on September 15 of that year.
