The Cuban telecommunications company, ETECSA, announced on Wednesday that technical issues have impacted the SMS service across the island, causing a temporary suspension of Transfermóvil, a key electronic payment platform in Cuba.

“We inform you that due to technical difficulties, the sending and receiving of messages via SMS is currently affected,” the state-run company stated on social media.

The disruption had an immediate effect on Transfermóvil, which relies on text message notifications to operate efficiently.

“As a result, #Transfermóvil is suspended due to the lack of notifications,” ETECSA clarified.

The company assured that their technicians are diligently working to restore the services "as soon as possible" and advised users to stay tuned to official channels for updates.

Recent Service Interruptions

This incident is among several recent disruptions reported by ETECSA in the past few weeks.

On August 17, a fiber optic cut impacted the system handling payments for the Nauta service, leading to difficulties in recharging, transferring balances between accounts, and paying for Nauta Hogar.

Earlier, on August 3, a malfunction caused nationwide cellular service interruptions. ETECSA attributed this issue to the failure of the generator supporting one of the main mobile network centers, affecting numbers starting with 52, 509, 598, and 599.
