An individual was taken into custody on Monday after barricading himself for about three hours in an Edgewater, Miami apartment, a situation that prompted a SWAT team response and led to the closure of several nearby streets.

The man was eventually transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to Telemundo 51, he was conscious and alert upon his arrival at the medical facility.

The operation kicked off shortly after 7:30 a.m. at the Aria Reserve residential complex, located at 700 NE 24th Street. A woman had contacted Miami police, reporting that a family member had locked himself inside a room, as relayed by the American news outlet from the scene.

During the standoff, at least one gunshot was heard from inside the apartment. Authorities clarified that the woman who made the call was not held against her will.

The situation led to a significant mobilization of SWAT teams, specialized negotiators, and units from Miami Fire Rescue. Several surrounding streets were closed off, with officials advising residents to remain sheltered in their homes.

"At this moment, Miami Police SWAT and Miami Fire Rescue teams are on site, with negotiations ongoing," the department announced during the operation.

NBC Miami reported that there was a second individual inside the apartment with the barricaded man. No injuries were reported for that person.

After approximately three hours of negotiations, Miami Police declared the situation under control and confirmed that the scene had been secured.

The authorities have not yet released the man's identity or any potential charges, as the investigation into the incident remains active.

Aria Reserve, where the incident took place, is a luxury residential complex consisting of two 62-story towers with roughly 782 units. Developed by the Melo Group and designed by Arquitectonica, it is situated along Biscayne Bay, in one of Miami's fastest-growing real estate areas in recent years.
